Egg Layers on Pasture

Happy Hens

We have moved our egg layers onto spring pasture and they love it!
The new grass and winter clover and vetch makes for a feast that our girls can’t resist. We began ‘pasturing’ our poultry about eighteen months ago; the result is a happier chicken, better pasture management and healthier eggs. The birds are fed a free-choice grain and once per week their feed is supplemented with grit, small stones and tiny rocks that aid in the digestive process.

imageWe use an electric net fence that protects from predators. The electric netting is energized using a solar powered fence charger. By using a solar-powered charger, the entire setup is portable.
